Summary View vs. Detailed View
Overview
The Expense & Profit Calculator has two views. Both show the same data, but at different levels of detail. You can switch between them depending on whether you need a quick overview or a deep-dive breakdown.
Summary View (Default)
The first time you open the Expense & Profit Calculator, you land in the Summary View. This is the high-level view - designed for speed. The page remembers your last choice, so on later visits it reopens in whichever view you used most recently. You see your products, your platforms, and the most important profit metrics without being overwhelmed by every individual line item.
In the Summary View:
- Expenses are grouped by Expense Group (e.g., "Total COGS," "Total Fulfillment Costs," "Total Platform Fees")
- You can see estimated profit ($ and %) at a glance for each platform
- You cannot edit values directly in the table - to update a value, click the kebab menu (โ) in the Edit column to open the modal
- Best for: Quickly reviewing profitability across your catalog, spotting unprofitable products, or scanning for anomalies.
Detailed View
The Detailed View expands each Expense Group to show the individual Expense Costs underneath it. This is where you see the full picture - every single fee broken down.
In the Detailed View:
- You can edit Expense Cost values directly in the table - edits are queued and applied when you click Save & Apply (they are not saved instantly)
- Each platform column shows individual line items (e.g., COGS, Labor, Packaging Cost, Shopify Payment Fees, etc.)
- Three header levels organize the data: Products/Platforms โ Revenue/Expense/Profit Groups โ Individual line items
- Best for: Verifying that every cost is accounted for, auditing specific fee types, or making precise per-item cost edits.
How to Switch Views
Use the view toggle at the top of the page to switch between Summary View and Detailed View.
